Hi Everyone

Introduction Hi everyone. While Tommy is winging his way to the UK I thought I should introduce myself to readers of this blog and anyone who is interested in Project Phoenix. I am Dr Gillian Gillespie, Tommy’s UK partner. He has told the story of how we ‘met’ elsewhere, so I’ll focus on what we want to do and why. I’m smiling as I write this, though, because, as those of you who have seen the Phoenix video know, Tommy likes to have a go at the ‘English accent’. He’s never been to Newcastle, however, so it will be interesting, if not downright hilarious, to hear him try a Geordie accent. Those of you in the UK or who know anyone from Newcastle will know EXACTLY what I mean by that! (I promise to try and get it on video for you, but shhh..don’t tell him). Teaching in Libya – The cultural aspect of our program.

This was mentioned in a comment on our Facebook page and I’d planned to address it anyway, but since it’s already been mentioned by a visitor, I’ll clarify it here. There are official books for first grade math, second grade science, eleventh grade Arabic, etc. They already have the curriculum approved. Less than a year ago a contract was awarded to a UK publisher … Read the rest…

Pressure Cooker, Bombs, and the government, or not?

We live in a world where everyone with a keyboard and a wi-fi connection has the potential to stir up trouble. I’m speaking this time of a hugely false rumor circulating around the web about the government monitoring a family’s home internet connection and then searching their home. I saw the “actual” story when it hit the news, but that was quickly buried under articles from both news agencies and bloggers – anything to prove the government is spying on us, huh? The original article was boring, and fairly short. The rumor mills circulating the web when I woke up today, however, were a totally different story. Here’s the story as it has been circulated around the web. Michele Catalano’s house was searched by six agents from the JTTF after she searched for pressure cookers and her husband searched separately for backpacks. The next thing you know, black SUVs are … Read the rest…
