My thoughts: Texas Republican Presidential Debate

I’ve just finished watching the debate and haven’t read any commentary or follow-up yet, but just wanted to post my thoughts while they were fresh in my mind. I’ll start with candidates, then a few key issues. FYI: I may update this later to add more content, but here’s the first draft. Trump He was the front-runner coming in to this debate and I think he’ll be the clear winner. Honestly I thought he did HORRIBLE in the SC debate, but apparently I was in the minority. The viewers obviously overwhelmingly disagreed and he won that one. Using the revised court of public opinion as precedent, I think that means he probably nailed everyone else’s coffin shut with this one. Yes, there were the normal Trump moments where he and another candidate went at each other like children, but compared to his other debates I think he did better than … Read the rest…

Which Cops Do You Want? Decide America!

Which one do you want to see on the streets every day, America? Because if we keep this up, we’re going to come to a turning point where it will be our citizens to blame.     Take a good long look at the images above and decide which one you want patrolling your streets, performing traffic stops, and knocking on your door. The decision is yours but you’d better decide soon before it gets decided for you. And I’m afraid you won’t like the outcome if the police get to decide. Cop Killing is Cool Now? It’s hard to believe I live in the country ours has become. As of today, there have been 24 cop murders this year, with 8 of them in last 9 days. I don’t mean cops shot in the line of duty. That’s sad enough. I mean sick twisted individuals just walking up and … Read the rest…

County Clerk Kim Davis, Marriage Rights, Religious Rights, and my thoughts…

I’ve been avoiding this article for a while now but I decided that this particular cup of coffee this morning provided me enough inspiration to get through it, so I’m going to share my thoughts on the matter since I have some time to kill before getting started on the day’s tasks ahead. If you don’t know the Kim Davis story by now, crawl out from under your rock and get some sunlight. Kim is the Rowan County Clerk in Kentucky that refused to provide marriage licenses to gay couples on grounds that it conflicts with her religious convictions. It went to court. She lost. She took it to the Supreme Court. She lost again. She still refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples because she says she’ll go to hell for it. Why isn’t she simply fired yet? Even as a Christian that shares some of her beliefs … Read the rest…

Arm Military Bases – or don’t?

I’m so sick of the media and Facebook being the sole source of information people get. Here’s the process: Read dumbass meme on Facebook Accept it as the Gospel truth. Do no research on your own. Get pissed off and rant about the gubment. Come up with your own political policy that’s better with absolutely no idea what the hell you’re talking about. That about sums up most people I see on Facebook. I’m left with the following decision to make on what seems to be an almost daily basis. Let them go on being idiots. Take time out of my day to put together an articulate response to their blathering idiocy. Ok, I tried number one for about a week now and the amount of idiocy that’s still ramping up about the gun control on military bases is starting to piss me off. So, take off your dunce caps … Read the rest…

Muslim Free Zone = Lawsuit you idiots.

Ok, maybe no one will read this. Then again some people read stupid stuff all the time and maybe they’ll get around to this before they think about turning their business into a Muslim-Free zone. Let me clarify a few facts, so you don’t get biased off the get-go. I’m of the Christian faith. I’m white. I’m not racist. I’m not religiously zealous to the point of stupidity. I know the law. You can believe numbers one through four or not, but number five is a given. I’m also a business owner, so I’m required to know the laws that govern running a business, especially a small business. Some of you have seen the video going around; the one where store owner, Andy Hallinan from Florida Gun Supply declares his business a “Muslim-Free Zone.” If you’ve not seen it and want to, here’s the video: In support of his idea, … Read the rest…

Steven Sotloff and America’s Naivete

Today is September 2, 2014. Today marks the 2nd time in recent history that Americans and much of the world at large have been faced with the reality of what warring with the Islamic terrorist state is all about. America lost another journalist today. Britain stands poised to lose another in the upcoming weeks if policies don’t change. I’m sitting here, trying to figure out what it is that people just don’t seem to understand. It sickens me how naïve many of our own people are when it comes to this war. First, we have to admit to ourselves that it is indeed a war. Whether we are fighting with 500,000 troops, or raining fire down from the heavens with predator and reaper drones, or simply delivering aid to those we think deserve it, it is still a war. Whether we want it to be a war or not, it is still … Read the rest…

Federal Wage Hike – Running the numbers… or from them.

I’m going to share a few personal thoughts about this proposed wage hike that some of you may or may not agree with, but that I feel needs to be stated in simple terms. It amazes me that the entirety of congress, both GOP and Democrat alike, as well as the President and a special budget committee just managed to realize something that most 8 year-olds grasp when they learn the basics of operating a piggy bank. Today, after what I’m sure cost us taxpayers a few million dollars, a report was delivered to Congress that states in simple terms that if the federal government institutes a mandated minimum wage hike to $10.10, that some people will make more money but others will be left without jobs. Dear Lord… it took a congressional budget committee to figure this out? The smartest people in this country (ok, apparently not) paid to … Read the rest…

Gay Marriage

In an effort to prevent the five or ten private messages I get a week on the issue, I’m writing this blog post. I started to post it on Facebook, but figured it would get enough traffic to be worthy of a post here instead. Besides, now I can just refer people to this URL instead of answering stupid questions repeatedly. First off, why the hell do so many people each week ask me that question? What makes ANYONE think I’m a reputable source from which to determine your own opinion. Either you want to say “Good, I agree” or you want to be able to say “Tommy hates gays.” Either way, why do people that don’t know me care? I’m not running for political office. I don’t need to campaign either way on gay issues. Having said that – My view on gay marriage – My view on gay … Read the rest…

My Apology to the President Of the United States (Barack Obama)

President Obama, On almost 99% of the views you and I have, we disagree. I didn’t vote for you and were I running for your office, I can assure you that you certainly wouldn’t have voted for me. Our agendas are different. Our beliefs are different. Everything about us is different. I’m going to share my thoughts here, briefly, and then leave you with a YouTube video I made earlier this evening regarding the subject. I am a member, and I refuse to use the adjective “proud”, of the NRA. I added my name to their roles this last year as a way to ensure someone is fighting for my rights as a gun owner. I’ve been dismayed the last month or so at some of the actions they have taken on behalf of  America’s gun owners, but today, Sir, well, as my mother is fond of saying “that takes … Read the rest…

President Obama’s 23 Executive Memorandums

Most of you today know the President revealed his 23 points today for how he was going to move forward handling the gun control issue. Not many sites revealed the full scope of his agenda, so I thought I’d just simply provide all twenty-three points here. My comments are in brackets under each item. My thoughts on the issues he pushed forward to Congress are contained in this video below. It was easier to do the video than type it all out. 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. [Why is this even an issue? Why hasn’t this been done already? But specifically what federal agencies and what “relevant data” are you referring to? I’d like specifics.] 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from … Read the rest…
